Lee Westwood is currently sidelined from LIV Golf for about two weeks due to a wrist injury he got during a practice round. While away from the game, the golfer is pretty active on social media, and he recently commented on an X post from Golf Digest’s Shane Ryan about Brian Rolapp’s plan to potentially make the Players Championship, the fifth golf major on the PGA Tour circuit.

The Players Championship teased the TPC Sawgrass in a recent hype up video promoting the tournament. Interestingly, fans have suggested that the PGA Tour could consider making it the fifth major on the circuit. Lee Westwood commented, arguing that a fifth major in the United States is unnecessary for the PGA Tour. The circuit should be rotated around the world so that certain modifications occur and every tournament has a fresh start.

Westwood also responded to Ryan’s Brian Rolapp statement, suggesting that he should invite the top 15 LIV golfers to play the game at this year’s Players Championship. The Mjaesticks GC co-captain’s X post read:

“Another major in the US is just what golf needs. 🤦🏽‍♂️ But as a test run ask Rolapp to invite the top 15 off Liv to play in this years players. Let me know how that goes. If anything the PGA should be rotated around the world and played in the US once every 4 years.”

Apart from this, Westwood recently also talked about the Official World Golf Rankings, which has decided to give LIV Golf players points based solely on top-10 finishes in tournaments.

Lee Westwood says fans’ reaction to OWGR’s decision on LIV Golf is “biased”

The Official World Golf Rankings and LIV Golf had been in discussions for a long time before it was decided that only the top ten finishers in the circuit’s tournament would get OWGR points. Interestingly, the LIV has altered significantly in the 2026 season, and as a result, only the top ten golfers will be receiving that much-needed OWGR ranking boost.

Lee Westwood talked about this decision while reposting an X post from a fan named Anti-LIV, who said that OWGR providing points is a huge step back for competitive golf. The fan’s post read,

“This is a terrible day for competitive golf!! Awarding a clown show points where so many shenanigans have taken place makes me sick to my stomach.”

Lee Westwood passed a comment under this post, arguing it was a biased opinion and that LIV is a circuit that has provided a number of young golfers with much-needed breakthroughs, so giving them another chance to shine on the OWGR is only a good thing to do. His X post stated,

“It’s a start. But if you think 11th in a Liv event doesn’t deserve @OWGRltd points you’re more biased than I thought. It’s the young guys that have chosen Liv as the pathway for their careers that will suffer most from this decision. Still couldn’t quite manage to do their job and fairly rank the best players in the world could they?!”

Westwood is currently expected to miss only two tournaments, LIV Golf Riyadh and LIV Golf Adelaide, and will be replaced by Ben Schmidt at Majesticks GC, ensuring the team’s English core continues.
