Justin Rose clinched his 13th PGA Tour win at the Farmers Insurance Open 2026 on Sunday. The 45-year-old sailed to a 2-under 70 for a seven-shot victory at Torrey Pines, breaking the tournament record previously held by Tiger Woods since 1999. Following the win, the ace golfer reiterated his liking to play on the American tour.
Rose held off competition to win the weekend event overly highlighted by headlines of LIV Golfers like Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed’s return to the PGA Tour. The Englishman addressed the possibilities presented to him to move to the breakaway tour in past years. However, the 2013 US Open champion re-affirmed his commitment to the American circuit and stated that his ‘childhood self’ would approve his decisions.
Furthermore, the seven-time Ryder Cup player added that he wishes to “play in amongst the best players in the world” on the PGA Tour. He added that the wish keeps him ‘hungry’ and ‘motivated.’
Justin Rose said after his Farmers Insurance Open win on Sunday, as quoted by Tee Scripts:
“My career goals have always only been attainable by staying on the European Tour and the PGA Tour because access to them is not, you know, not possible the other way. But obviously I want to play in amongst the best players in the world. That obviously for me is kind of what keeps me motivated, what keeps me hungry, what keeps me pushing…
I kind of always felt like my childhood self wouldn’t feel very good about making that decision and kind of giving up on those dreams. I feel like, yeah, I’ve been close. I would say, sniffing and knocking on the door of a couple majors since those decisions were made and those moments. It did validate the decision (to stay on the PGA Tour).”
Brooks Koepka’s ‘phenomenal’ PGA Tour return
Rose’s comments came right after Brooks Koepka made his maiden PGA Tour start after his big return from LIV Golf. The 35-year-old matched Rose’s Sunday’s final round score with a 2-under 70. However, he finished with 4-under 284 and settled for T56. Despite the forgettable result, the former Smash GC skipper seemed ecstatic to be back on the American circuit.
The five-time major champion admitted that the PGA return at La Jolla, California went better than he expected.
Brooks Koepka told CBS broadcast on Sunday:
“It (his PGA return) has been phenomenal. I don’t know what I expected, but it’s been beyond what I had expected. Overwhelming and very cool. Players seemed excited and welcomed me back… It was a little weird, but once you get a few holes in, you get into your comfort zone. I’m falling back in love with the game.”
It is pertinent to note that Koepka confirmed his exit from LIV Golf in December last year. The ace golfer re-joined the PGA Tour via the circuit’s newly-rolled out ‘Returning Member Program’ which allowed any former player with a major win since 2022 to return to the American tour. Interestingly, players like Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith passed on the program despite Koepka’s move.
