Patrick Reed’s departure from LIV Golf was a huge shock for the golf world. He was a key member of the league since 2022, and there were reports about his contract issues for weeks before Reed parted ways with the circuit. Recently, other notable golfers reacted to Reed leaving the circuit, and the Legion XII’s Jon Rahm supported the decision and claimed it was his choice.

During the pre-event news conference for the first tournament of the LIV 2026 season, LIV Golf Riyadh, Rahm stated that Patrick Reed has done what he believes is best for himself. The Spanish golfer emphasized that everyone is a fantastic golfer, and it is up to them to play anywhere they wish. Rahm also wished Reed continued success on any tour he chooses to play on. According to an X post by Flushing It Golf, Rahm stated,

“I think each one is going to do whatever he thinks is best for them. At this point, I just wish him nothing but the best of luck. Hopefully, it all goes well. We’re free to choose where we want to play golf. At least that’s how it should be. And he’s made his choice, obviously. Nothing really against him. He’s been playing fantastic golf, and if he wants to go back, he should have the chance to do so.”

Some reports have revealed that Patrick Reed has already spoken with the PGA Tour, and he has received the standard one-year suspension. As a result, Reed will be able to compete on that circuit after August 2026, as he can enter events via sponsor exemptions and Monday playoffs. Reed will be reinstated as an official member of the circuit beginning with the 2027 season, and after that he will be eligible to compete in regular tournaments thereafter.

Patrick Reed’s most recent appearance was at the DP World Tour’s Bahrain Championship. The golfer was one of the fan favourites for this tournament as he was coming in after winning the 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Interestingly, Reed stood on these expectations of fans and performed excellently in Bahrain, gaining an advantage over the course of the week and finishing tied for first with a total score of 17 under par.

Reed was in a three way tied for the lead in the end, along with Freddy Schott and Calum Hill. Unfortunately, the former LIV Golfer was unable to keep up with Schott and Hill from the opening hole of the playoff, where he bogeyed and exited early. Hill later double-bogeyed the second hole, and Schott went on to win with two consecutive pars.

Following this impressive performance, Patrick Reed will compete in the Qatar Masters, which will be held at the Doha Golf Club on February 5.
