The controversy between Jon Rahm and the DP World Tour has taken a dramatic turn. It was reported a few weeks ago that DPWT provided LIV Golfers the opportunity to reestablish their membership with the circuit after paying a settlement payment. Many prominent names have accepted this settlement plan, but Rahm remains opposed, citing his desire to avoid paying any arbitrary fines imposed by the DP World Tour on him.
During a press conference before the 2026 LIV Golf Hong Kong, Jon Rahm discussed his DP World Tour problems, claiming that the circuit is forcing golfers to return by unjust means. He discussed how the DPWT is employing big names like himself and young golfers to wield power in the golf industry’s present political situation. Rahm stated how unjust this is and expressed his displeasure with the tour’s current actions.
According to an X post, the Spanish golfer stated,
“I don’t know what game they’re trying to play right now, but it just seems like in a way they’re using us to — they’re using our impact in tournaments and finding us and trying to benefit both ways from what we have to offer, and it’s just in a way they’re extorting players like myself and young players that have nothing to do with the politics of the game…I don’t like what they’re doing currently with the contract they’re having us sign. I don’t like the conditions.”
The DP World Tour has fined Jon Rahm for all of the tournaments he has missed since switching to LIV Golf despite being a DPWT member. According to reports, the total value of these fines is currently $3 million. Rahm talked more about the situation, claiming that the circuit has a few more conditions.
Jon Rahm talks about the conditions that the DP World Tour set against him

During the same press conference before the 2026 LIV Golf Hong Kong, Jon Rahm explained how the DPWT expects him to play at least 6 tournaments in a single season, and that too of the circuit’s choice. Rahm added that he does not like it and wants to play on the tour on his own terms, in the events he wants to participate in. He explained,
“They’re asking me to play a minimum of six events, and they dictate where two of those have to be, amongst other things that I don’t agree with… I just don’t like the situation. I think we should be able to freely play where we want and have the choice to play where we want and not be dictated what we do. Especially myself. I can’t speak for others; only myself.”
From the last couple of seasons, Rahm has been playing four events on the DP World Tour every season, and he highlighted how he plans to continue doing so as he expresses his desire to be a significant part of the DPWT, especially the Spanish Open.
