Brandel Chamblee recently addressed rumors that The Players Championship may become the fifth golf major. The commentator shockingly claimed that the tournament is not only worthy of becoming a golf major but also superior to all four golf majors. Chamblee noted that the TPC Sawgrass course, which hosts the tournament, is particularly special, making the tournament one of the most difficult to win.

The 63-year-old golfer revealed that, while he appreciates all four majors, The Players Championship stands out to him. He also remarked that this tournament is unquestionably the most difficult to win of all the golf competitions. In an X post by NUCLR Golf, Brandel Chamblee explained,

“So in every single way that a metric could be used to measure whether something is a major, the PLAYERS, to me, stands alone and above all the other four major championships as not just a major. It is in my estimation, the best major.”

Fans in the comments began to point out that Chamblee is completely incorrect in this case because the TPC Sawgrass is clearly not the best golf course. Some fans argued that, while The Players is undoubtedly a difficult tournament to win, it is still not as large as any other golf major. One of the fans even shared his experience, noting that he had played the course before and that it was not a huge deal. Talking more about these fans’ comments, here’s a look at a few of them:

“I’ve never liked the guy as an analyst, but there goes any respect I still had.” One fan commented.

“Hardest tournament to win, yes. But it will never be a major.” One fan pointed out.

“Hes not serious about the course right? Played it, didn’t move me.” One fan explained.

“He just sayin they cause LIV guys can’t play in it. This dude is the Skip Bayless of golf.” Another fan stated.

“Brandel calling THE PLAYERS a major is like declaring a 20‑footer a “gimme.”” Another fan explained.

Aside from this, Brandel Chamblee recently also discussed the Official World Golf Rankings’ final decision about LIV Golf tournaments.

The LIV Golf and OWGR have been in talks for years until the final decision was made last week. It was announced that OWGR points will be awarded based on LIV Golf tournament results, although only the top ten golfers will receive them. While it was a contentious choice, Brandel Chamblee, who was always opposed to it, maintained that it was in some ways the right thing to do.

According to Tennis World USA, Brandel Chamblee stated,

A lot of buzz surrounding the OWGR’s decision announced today to give LIV Golf world ranking points. While my position on LIV is unchanged, I think it was the right thing for the OWGR to do.”

The reporter has a strong opinion about LIV Golf since he is a true PGA Tour supporter who believes the PGA is the finest circuit for players to play on and progress.
