President Donald Trump is a major golf fan and, along with The Trump Organization, he owns roughly 17-18 golf courses across the world. One of their most recent acquisitions was of the East Potomac Golf Links in Washington, DC, which President Trump and his team want to completely rebuild. Unfortunately, a huge setback has occurred in their plans, as it has been claimed that the Trump Organization is being sued for its charge of this line of action.

According to The Washington Post, two frequent attendees of this course, Dave Roberts and Alex Dickson, have filed this lawsuit. The two of them alleged that the course’s internal department did not finish all necessary tasks, such as the needed environmental and health reviews, and rushed the project. While the two first filed the lawsuit on their own, the DC Preservation League and a few other lawyers who have consistently opposed Trump joined them.

The DC Preservation League is an NGO with a stated mission to safeguard old monuments. They are simply joining the case to defend the 124-year-old golf facility, as President Donald Trump has stated that he intends to renovate the entire course and make it a championship-class course capable of hosting the US Open one day. According to The Washington Post, Trump said,

“We’re going to make it a beautiful, world-class, U.S. Open-caliber course. Ideally, we’re going to have major tournaments there and everything else. It’s going to bring a lot of business into Washington.”

Another internal White House representative has discussed President Donald Trump’s idea and why it is important not only for the golf course but for the whole of Washington.

Taylor Rogers, a White House spokesperson, discussed the golf course acquisition and disclosed that it is a small step in Donald Trump’s larger aim to transform Washington, DC. Rogers added that Trump owns several golf courses across the world and that with his design talents, he will be able to raise the standard of all public golf courses in Washington, DC.

According to the same report by The Washington Post, Roger stated,

“As a private citizen, President Trump built some of the greatest golf courses in the world, and he is now extending his unmatched design skills and excellent eye for detail to D.C.’s public golf courses. The President and his extraordinary team will redevelop these decrepit golf courses in our nation’s capital to restore glamour and prestige.”

It has also been stated that the National Links Trust has negotiated a 50-year lease in 2020, under which they will not only operate but also repair all three public golf courses in Washington DC. They have also stated that they will ensure that historic properties are included in the DC courses at an affordable cost.
