Charley Hull is one of the biggest names on the LPGA Tour, and recently, she talked about the current biggest golf world controversy: five golf majors on the PGA Tour. Interestingly, the English golfer holds quite a different opinion from the current Green Jacket holder, Rory McIlroy. The World No. 2 was present at a press conference where he stated that he can play seven golf majors in a year, but that does not make sense.
McIlroy remarked that he is only a history guy and believes that after so many years of playing four golf majors, they are good enough. He further stated that if fans want to witness five golf majors, they should switch to women’s golf. According to the BBC, the golfer stated,
“Look, I’d love to have seven majors instead of five, that sounds great….But I’m a traditionalist, I’m a historian of the game. We have four major championships. If you want to see what five major championships looks like, look at the women’s game. I don’t know how well that’s went for them.”
Charley Hull, on the other hand, believes that introducing five golf majors to the men’s game is a positive idea. She described how the five golf majors provide golfers with one extra chance to win. According to Bunkered, Hull stated,
“I’m very happy having five majors. It’s one more chance to win one each year than the men!”
Hull has had a pretty heartbreaking track record in the LPGA golf major tournaments. She has ended as a runner-up multiple times in the leaderboard, about which she talked in the same interview, saying that she believes her win will come soon.
Charley Hull believes her golf major triumph will come soon

During her last golf major appearance at the 2025 AIG Women’s Open, Charley Hull was inches away from a win. She finished the tournament with a total score of 9 under par, tied for second place. This tournament marked a watershed moment for her, and her form has subsequently improved dramatically. Hull discussed this in her interview with Bunkered, noting that she has improved in the last two years and that her golf major win is on the horizon.
According to Bunkered, Hull explained,
“I feel I’ve performed steadily in the majors in the last couple of years, so I know it’s not far away. I’ve worked hard on my game over the winter, and as long as I keep putting myself in contention, I believe it will happen for me at some point.”
Charley Hull fared excellently in her first tournament of the season, the Hilton Grand Vacations competition of Champions, finishing with a total score of one under par. She finished the tournament tied for 17th place and earned $28,861.
