Dustin Johnson signed a multi-year extension deal with LIV Golf ahead of the 2026 season. The move came on Wednesday amid reports of several stars weighing options from the breakaway tour after Brooks Koepka’s exit. Now, the two-time major champion has opened up on his future in golf.
Speaking in an interview after his latest contract extension, Johnson revealed that he believes he can get back “to the top of golf.” The 41-year-old, who recently added PGA Tour winner Thomas Detry to his 4Aces LIV squad, said he is far from hanging his boots. The former PGA Tour star admitted having no ‘timeline’ on his career’s end, but insisted on wanting to ‘compete’ and play well.
The world no.639 golfer, who recorded just one podium finish last season at LIV Golf Indianapolis, exuded confidence in the upcoming season.
Dustin Johnson told The Today’s Golfer:
“I don’t really have a timeline (about exiting golf.) Just when I don’t enjoy it anymore. Like now, I still enjoy competing. I still want to compete. I still feel like my game is good enough to get back to the top of the golf. I still feel like I’m good enough to do that. Once that goes away, that’s when I’ll stop…
As long as I play well, I think I’ll get in. If I play well, I think I’ll get into them. I want to play and compete. I still feel like I’m good enough to compete with the best. Obviously, this year is a big year. I need to play well. I’m looking forward to it.”
For the unversed, Johnson’s five-year exemption into all four majors, which he earned with the win at Augusta National in 2020, has run out. However, the ace golfer is exempt to play the Masters for life. He is also eligible for the US Open in 2026 as he holds the decade-long exemption from his 2016 victory at Oakmont.

The LIV Golf League announced offering a multi-year extension deal to Johnson last week. The 4Aces GC skipper later confirmed accepting the deal. However, the terms of the new contract were not disclosed. The three-time LIV Golf winner, who has missed the cut in six of his past nine major starts, is set to start his fifth season on the breakaway tour.
Dustin Johnson said last Tuesday during a news conference in Palm Beach, Florida:
“I’m obviously very excited about this year. I think we’re going to a couple new venues, and that’s exciting. Obviously, anytime we’re going to a new place, especially all the things I’m hearing about South Africa, it’s supposed to be amazing. We’ve got a ton of fans.”
For the unversed, Johnson’s contract extension announcement came along with the Saudi-series’ new prize money reveal, which increased from $25 million to $30 million. LIV CEO Scott O’Neil said just over $22 million would go toward the individual result, while the rest will reward the teams. Johnson will lead his 4Aces side consisting of Patrick Reed, Thomas Pieters and newly-added Thomas Detry for the 2026 season.
