‘It’s Like a Bad Nightmare’: Former Michigan Staffer Details Blunt Repercussions of Sherrone Moore’s Controversy on the Program

Michigan is battling a crisis after firing coach Sherrone Moore for having an inappropriate relationship with a staffer. Just when the program was trying to put the sign-stealing scandal behind it, it finds itself embroiled in another controversy.

After the firing, Moore was arrested and charged with third-degree home invasion (a felony) along with misdemeanor counts of stalking and breaking and entering. According to prosecutors, Moore entered the home of the victim without permission and threatened to inflict self-harm using kitchen knives.

As these events unfold, there is apparently a sense of unease within the program, with one former Michigan staffer explaining the atmosphere.

“It’s like a bad nightmare or a soap-opera drama,” a former Michigan staffer said via the New York Times. “It’s a sad story, and it’s not over yet.”

Another Michigan staffer said there were rumors across the program that Moore was in a relationship with the victim.

“There were rumors about their relationship,” a staffer said. “Nothing was set in stone — like, ‘Oh, they have a relationship.’ It wasn’t known across the building.”

Sherrone Moore was released on a $25,000 bond and his next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 22.
