Vanderbilt’s defeat of the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide was one of the key upsets from last college football season.
After the upset, insider Alyssa Lang had a tough time corralling quarterback Diego Pavia for an interview in the chaos.

Alyssa Lang’s Crazy Story
In a recent appearance on the SOS Podcast, Lang chatted about her experience of trying to get an interview with Pavia after the upset.

“I don’t think he realized it was me until I finally kind of, like, yanked him by the arm…I was getting bruised and beaten up by all these fans,” Lang said. “It was insane.”
Lang’s story is exactly what makes college football crazy and awesome at the same time. Fans storming the field after arguably the greatest win in school history might make it a little tough to get an interview.
In the end, Lang got the interview with the winning signal-caller in Pavia.
Vanderbilt’s Outstanding 2024 Season
This victory over Kalen DeBoer and Alabama was a microcosm of the type of season that the Commodores had.
Pavia and Co. were able to finish the season with a record of 7-6 and a bowl win. Vanderbilt had not finished a season with a winning record since 2012 when James Franklin was the head coach.
Pavia proved that he could be a great quarterback in the SEC. The former New Mexico State Aggie threw 20 touchdowns and just four interceptions that year.
Head coach Clark Lea really needed to show up and produce a season that would make the Vanderbilt fans believe in him and the team. He did just that, as the team not only beat the Tide but also beat quality programs in Virginia Tech, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech.
Now, the standard has been set for the rest of the Lea tenure. Next season, even with games against good teams such as Alabama, Texas, LSU, and Tennessee, this team has to show up and win more.

If Lea and Co. cannot win at least six or seven games again, there could be a change in leadership at the end of the year.
