College Football Heisman Odds Ahead of Week 4: Carson Beck Leads The Race as Multiple SEC Stars Make The Cut

Gone are the days in which Arch Manning was the undisputed favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. The season started, and as usual, the reality proved to be a very different one from the one predicted by analysts during the offseason. Carson Beck is currently the favorite to win the award, following a momentous start to his one season with the Miami Hurricanes.

Currently, the ‘Canes quarterback has odds of +700 according to BetMGM. The top three also include Oklahoma’s John Mateer (+750) and Oregon’s Dante Moore (+1100). The rest of the top 10 looks as follows:

    1. Carson Beck – Miami (ACC) +700
    2. John Mateer – Oklahoma (SEC) +750
    3. Dante Moore – Oregon (Big Ten) +1100
    4. Gunner Stockton – Georgia (SEC) +1200
    5. Marcel Reed – Texas A&M (SEC) +1500
    6. Joey Aguilar – Tennessee (SEC) +1500
    7. Garrett Nussmeier – LSU (SEC) +1500
    8. Jeremiah Smith – Ohio State (Big Ten) +1600
    9. Julian Sayin – Ohio State (Big Ten) +1700
    10. Jackson Arnold – Auburn (SEC) +2000

One thing is clear: the SEC dominates the top ten with six quarterbacks in the list. The Big Ten has three players, and the ACC just one. However, the only school to have multiple players in the top ten is not an SEC program, but a Big Ten one. The reigning national champions have their quarterback, Julian Sayin, and also feature the only non-quarterback on the list, Jeremiah Smith.

Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow has Carson Beck’s back

At least one Heisman Trophy winner thinks Carson Beck has what it takes to be considered an elite player. Speaking this week on SportsCenter, former Florida Gator and 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow made an argument for the Miami quarterback to be considered an elite player:

“But why not call him elite? Like, are we just trying to be haters? Like, come on, this dude’s absolutely elite,” Tebow said on SportsCenter.

“Look at him in 2023 and last year it wasn’t quite as good. But now look at the way he’s got a command of his offense. Look at his ball placement, look at what he’s doing on third downs, look at the lack of turnovers, like he is playing at an elite level. I don’t care which area you want to talk about, if it’s the leadership, if it’s command of the offense, if it’s confidence, by the way, he’s in a new system, and he looks like he’s been in it for five years.”

Could Miami be about to catch lightning in a bottle for the second year in a row? The formula worked pretty well with Cam Ward in 2024, and it seems that it could pan out well in 2025 with Carson Beck. The signal-caller needs to keep performing at the same level.
