The Arkansas Razorbacks have opened the 2025 season in spectacular fashion with a 12-3 mark, just one game behind SEC leaders, the Texas Longhorns.
To top it off, the Razorbacks boast an impressive 32-5 overall record. However, that dominance was absent over the weekend as Arkansas dropped back-to-back games to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Tate McGuire Gets the Ball for Arkansas
Arkansas will turn to right-hander Tate McGuire on Tuesday to halt the losing streak when the Razorbacks host the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (UAPB) Golden Lions. The 20-year-old joined the program in 2024 but is seeing his most action this season.
McGuire has appeared in 10 games this year, with two starts. In 18.1 innings pitched, he has allowed 14 hits and eight earned runs for a 3.93 ERA. He owns just a 1-2 record with 15 strikeouts.
A native of Shawnee Mission, Kan., McGuire pitched just 1.2 innings in 2024, allowing one earned run for a 5.40 ERA and striking out four.
Over the summer, he pitched for Wareham in the Cape Cod League and excelled in seven starts, posting a 2-1 record with a 3.81 ERA. He allowed 11 earned runs in 26 innings while striking out 33 and giving up just 24 hits.
McGuire stands 6’3″ and weighs 215 pounds.
At the end of his junior baseball career in 2023, Perfect Game ranked him the No. 360 overall prospect and the No. 114 right-hander nationally. He was also rated sixth overall and the top right-hander in Missouri.
Prep Baseball Report ranked him No. 177 overall and the No. 62 right-hander nationally, while placing him fourth overall and No. 1 among right-handers in Missouri.
One of his key weapons is his fastball, which topped out at 94 mph as early as July 2022, according to Prep Baseball Report. Interestingly, McGuire also played first base at the junior level but has yet to make his collegiate debut as an infielder.
The Razorbacks will play just one game this week against UAPB before their conference weekend series. The Golden Lions, off to a sluggish 8-26 start, have not yet announced a starter to face McGuire.
