A highly-decorated high school athlete, Williams ultimately chose Oklahoma as his first collegiate home. He was ranked as the No. 1 overall player by a variety of publications and a consensus five-star athlete after winning multiple Al-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference awards and MVP titles from 2018-19.

Despite COVID-19 canceling his 2020 senior season, Williams garnered attention from just about every college in the country before signing with head coach Lincoln Riley and the Sooners. After enrolling early at OU, Williams seemed poise to push incumbent starter and — at the time — highly thought of NFL draft prospect Spencer Rattler for reps as early as his freshman season.

In the end, Williams did indeed earn the starting role during his freshman season in Norman, and that led to Rattler’s transfer to South Carolina.

Following his own head coach, however, Williams wasn’t too far behind Rattler in jettisoning Oklahoma as he transferred to USC with Riley after the 2021 season. And as the expression goes, “the rest is history.”
