Former BYU Star Puka Nacua Reclaims No. 12 That He Once Donned in College

Los Angeles Rams All-Pro wide receiver Puka Nacua is changing his jersey number this season in the wake of the team signing future Hall of Fame wide receiver Davante Adams.

Nacua will wear No. 12, which he wore in college at BYU, while Adams will wear his predominant No. 17.

    Puka Nacua Reclaims College Number

The Rams recently announced Nacua’s number change with a video.

Below the video, the caption reads:

    “Some numbers choose you.”

While Nacua gets to go back to wearing his old jersey, he also gets to demonstrate his respect for his new teammate.

Adams has worn No. 17 his entire career and has done pretty well with that number.

The six-time Pro-Bowler and three-time All-Pro has recorded 957 career receptions for 11,844 yards and 103 receiving touchdowns in his 11-year career.

He and Nacua have the chance to provide quarterback Matthew Stafford with the best pair of wide receivers he has ever played with.

Nacua Going Back to His College Days

After transferring from the University of Washington in 2021, Nacua became a star in Provo while donning the No. 12 jersey.

He caught 43 passes for 805 yards and six touchdowns in 2021 before catching 48 passes for 625 yards and five touchdowns in just nine games in 2022.

Nacua helped the Cougars win 10 games in 2021 and eight in 2022. His success in college shaped who he would be in the NFL.

When head coach Sean McVay and the Rams organization decided to take a chance on him, he didn’t look back. As a rookie, he caught 105 passes (NFL record) for 1,486 yards (NFL record) and six touchdowns as the Rams made the playoffs.

In his team’s wildcard round loss to the Lions that season, Nacua posted 181 receiving yards, which was, at the time, an NFL record for a wide receiver in his playoff debut.

Despite battling injuries last season, Nacua caught 79 passes for 990 yards in just 11 games. Even if he changes his number, look for Nacua to still be his same old dominant self out wide next to Adams for the Rams.
