After receiving a temporary injunction from the Lubbock County Court on Monday, Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby will now play in the upcoming 2026 season following his collegiate eligibility battle with the NCAA over involvement in gambling.
According to Sorsby’s attorney, Jeffrey Kessler, the signal-caller will now devote himself to his team as he continues his gambling rehab treatment, calling the court order “just” while also saying that the order has done “no damage to the competitive integrity of NCAA games.”

Contrary to Kessler’s belief, a lot of teams are not so welcoming of the recent order allowing Brendan to participate in the upcoming campaign.
In a recent conversation with Yahoo Sports, Kansas State athletic director Gene Taylor did not mince his words around Sorsby’s reinstatement.
“I know the kid has a problem. Well, get well and focus on your problem. It is absolutely devastating for him to be able to play when every other sport, no matter the level, deems an athlete ineligible or they are punished severely for betting on their team,” Taylor sAId
Taylor also said the program is still deciding whether to play Texas Tech in the future.
“We’ve had some serious conversation about it (not playing Texas Tech). There is still a lot to be discussed. We aren’t scheduled to play them this year, but it’s something we have to look at from a college football perspective. This is greater than the Big 12,” Taylor SAId.
Meanwhile, Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks said that there should be serious conversations around not playing Texas Tech in any sports.
While it remains to be seen if any games end up getting canceled, a potential Texas Tech boycott could be imminent as athletic directors across conferences decide on what’s best for their teams.
Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby Handed Two-Game Suspension After Court Ruling
Despite coming out on top in his long-drawn battle with the NCAA, Brendan Sorsby will still not be available for the entire season.
As part of the quarterback’s temporary injunction, Sorsby will face a two-game suspension at the start of the season, a compromise that the court and Brendan’s legal team agreed on. So, Sorsby will miss Texas Tech’s games against the Abilene Christian Wildcats and the Oregon State Beavers.
