Yankees Commentator Strongly Criticizes Team After Anthony Volpe Error In Twins Loss Seals Dire Record

New York Yankees star Anthony Volpe is earning no favors from anyone as he continues to struggle defensively at the shortstop position. The latest miscue came in the Yankees’ 6-1 loss against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday.

In the fifth inning, Volpe made an errant throw from shortstop on a ball hit by rookie Kyler Fedko. The mistake allowed the Twins to capitalize as they scored two earned runs off the Yankees’ bullpen.

Suzyn Waldman, who was commenting on the game live, noted that this was the Yankees’ 20th error in the last 15 games.

“You know, this is what everyone is talking about,” Waldman said. “And this is why this team is getting booed right now and people say that they’re not focused. That was that with Volpe’s last error. That was the 20th error in the last 15 games.”

In the last 15 games, those 20 errors have led to 29 unearned runs, which is the most by the franchise in any 15-game span since 1935, according to Katie Sharp.

Particularly, Volpe has come under intense scrutiny over his defense, especially more surprising since he won an AL Gold Glove earlier in his career. He underwent shoulder surgery in the offseason and returned in May. The glove work is improving, but Sunday’s error once again reignited concerns about him.

Yankees Manager Aaron Boone Makes Brutal Admission on Team’s Prospects

For the first time since 2014, the Twins were able to win a game in Yankee Stadium as the hosts continue to lose ground to AL East leaders Tampa Bay Rays. They have now lost nine of their last 10 games.

At one point, manager Aaron Boone’s club was 46-28, and now they are 49-40, which means they went 3-12 in this terrible stretch. With players like Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton unavailable, the Yankees are struggling to find any kind of offense, literally.

“We haven’t hit much,” Boone said. “We haven’t played well. We haven’t pitched our best. All that adds up.”

The concerns are from every department and Sunday’s game was a prime example of how the Yankees are faltering on multiple levels. Their hitters could only manage five hits and were shut down during Joe Ryan’s seven-inning masterpiece. Their defense, as usual, is committing mistakes regularly, as Anthony Volpe was not able to handle a chopper off the bat of Ryan Kreidler. The bullpen is not helping and baserunning was terrible as well.

Overall, there are a lot of question marks and no immediate answers, leaving the team in terrible flux.
