New York Mets star Juan Soto has finally spoken up about his chemistry with fellow teammate and shortstop Francisco Lindor. Much was said about the two last year, with reports claiming they could not get along. But things seem to be different this year.
Mets owner Steve Cohen first put to rest speculation that there was something wrong between the two. He suggested that the two are going along well, and interim manager Andy Green echoed the sentiment.
Now, the latest to add to this drama is Soto himself. Signed to a 15-year, $765 million deal, the outfielder opened up about his relationship with Lindor last season.
“There were no issues last year — at all,” Soto told The Athletic on Friday. “We didn’t have any beef or anything. Definitely, our relationship is getting better because it takes time. When you meet a girl, you don’t start kissing her right away.”
Soto’s reaction garnered funny reactions from fans.
Mets SS Francisco Lindor Opens Up On Chemistry With Juan Soto
Francisco Lindor also talked with The Athletic, opening up on the shortstop’s developing relationship with Juan Soto. He reiterated that he respects the outfielder.
“The more time we spend together, it’s only natural that our relationship continues to grow,” Lindor said. We’ve been teammates for two years now. Time has been on our side. I have nothing but respect for him. He’s my brother. He’s somebody I respected from a distance and respect here, inside.”
Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto are both high-octane players for the Mets, signed to long-term deals. Lindor signed a 10-year, $341 million deal. So, it was essential for the organization to determine whether both superstars could work together for the benefit of the team.
Last season was a waste, and by the end, the focus shifted to their relationship. The recent comments from Soto, Lindor, Steve Cohen, and Andy Green confirm at least one thing. They didn’t have good chemistry last year, but the wind is changing in the locker room for the best.
