Yankees Analyst Goes Scorched Earth On Anthony Volpe, Paul Goldschmidt & Cody Bellinger Amid Aaron Boone Criticism

An MLB analyst remarked that several New York Yankees players are playing without accountability and that the blame falls on manager Aaron Boone. This includes Anthony Volpe, Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger, who have fallen off lately.

The Yankees started the season strong, jumping to a 46-28 record. However, they have since lost over a dozen games while winning only four, relegating them to second place in the AL East with a 50-42 record.

On Wednesday, prominent New York sports radio personality Chris McMonigle, known on-air as “C-Mac,” went scorched earth on the Yankees and their manager, Boone. According to C-Mac, Boone is not holding Yankees stars accountable.

“You just said they’re Major League Baseball players and they’re soft, but they need a manager to tell them when they’re 0-for-30, it’s bad,” C-Mac said. “‘Hey, you’re 0-for-30, Paul. It’s bad. You need to be punished, Paul.’ Like, I just don’t buy it. I’m sorry, I don’t buy it. I don’t believe that Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger are killing this team because Aaron Boone isn’t holding people accountable.”

C-Mac then specifically pointed out some key Yankees players as reasons behind the Yankees’ slump. He mentioned Goldschmidt’s 0-for-30 slump and Anthony Volpe’s struggles both offensively and defensively to suggest the Yankees players are “soft.”

“It’s 0-for-30 from what was their best hitter, a former MVP and future Hall of Famer,” C-Mac added. “And Anthony Volpe stinks. They just held him accountable and benched him two games in a row. Do you think he’s suddenly going to stop stinking? I’m sorry. I just think it’s an easy answer from a bunch of guys who look at Major League Baseball players and professional athletes in general and like to throw words like ‘soft’ at them.”

Yankees Star Paul Goldschmidt Takes Accountability After 0-for-30 Slump

Paul Goldschmidt last managed a hit on June 25 against the Boston Red Sox. Since then, he had gone 0-for-30 at the plate before Wednesday’s game against the Rays. To make it worse, on Tuesday, he was struck out four times.

The former MVP told reporters about his shortcomings and that he is going to try hard to get out of this slump.

“Obviously, the performance tonight especially was terrible,” Goldschmidt said. “I mean, I would like to try to be more positive than that, but you strike out four times, and there was guys on base, just really just a bad performance, and last night was the same. Just haven’t played well this last week plus, and I’m just gonna try to do everything I can to play better tomorrow.”

Then again on Wednesday in the 3-0 loss to the Rays, the Yankees first baseman went 0-for-4 again.

This is striking because the first baseman had a great start to the season but has not been performing well at the plate lately. After 65 games, he is now hitting .257 with .315 OBP and .487 slugging to go along with 14 home runs, 41 RBIs and 17 walks.
