“He Creates Michael Jordan-Esque Issues” – Yankees Ace Cam Schlittler Earns Praise From MLB Analyst For ‘Alpha’ Attitude

Yankees ace Cam Schlittler is having an outstanding season, earning an All-Star selection just a year after his debut in 2025. The 25-year-old right-handed pitcher is receiving widespread praise, with fans increasingly viewing him as the future of the Yankees’ bullpen. MLB analysts Tiki Barber and Evan Roberts praised Schlittler enthusiastically on their daily WFAN program.

Drawing comparisons between Cam and former Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey, Barber said Schlittler was a true baller who ignored public opinion. He also noted Cam’s comment that one poor start sparks talk of regression. Barber likened Schlittler’s passionate words to those of Michael Jordan.

“Cam Schlittler is becoming the alpha. He is the example, right? He is what Jeremy Shockey was when he came to the New York Giants: a young player who said, “Damn you, I’m a baller, and if you don’t like it, I’ll fight you.” “That’s that. That was Shockey. That is exactly who Cam Schlittler is, and I love it… Yes, he creates Michael Jordan-esque issues, I guess, because no one said that,” Barber said.

After leading the Yankees to a dominant 5-1 win over the Rays on Monday night, with Schlittler pitching eight dominant innings, he spoke to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, addressing the notion that he had regressed.

“They want to say there’s regression because I have one bad outing, so again, it was personal to go out there and have a dominant start and put this team in the right position,” Schlittler said.

Cam Schlittler is Contending a Fairly Decent Record Heading Into the Midsummer Classic

Despite being a 9-5 player this year, Schlittler has emerged as one of the top pitchers in the majors. He boasts a 2.01 ERA, which ranks second in MLB, and has 131 strikeouts, which place him fourth. Additionally, his 0.93 WHIP ranks fourth in the league. These achievements earned Schlittler his first career all-star selection.

The Yankees hold a 50-41 record this season, placing them second in the AL East, four games behind the Rays. On Wednesday, they aim to close the gap as they face the Rays in the third game of a vital four-game intra-division series at Tropicana Field.
