What Happened Between Tennessee & Georgia In NCAA Baseball Today? Viral Moment With Robbed Catch & Mocking Celebration Explained

The Tennessee Volunteers and the Georgia Bulldogs were involved in a dramatic college basketball game on Sunday. Celebrations changed hands as the home run ball was robbed.

In the top of the ninth inning, Tennessee was trailing 8–7 with two outs. Pinch hitter Stone Lawless hit a deep fly ball that looked like a go-ahead home run. Lawless thought he hit the 1-0 breaking ball well and started celebrating by slamming the bat down. Even Georgia pitcher Justin Byrd was down on his knees thinking it was gone. However, Georgia outfielder Cole Johnson tracked the ball at the wall and made a spectacular catch.

The home run ball was robbed and the game ended there as Georgie won the three-game series over the weekend in the SEC play.

After the catch was taken, the Bulldogs camp ran on the field. They hugged and high-fived each other before going together to center field wall.

Fans online mocked Lawless for his premature celebration.

“Makes a hitter look like a jacka** pimping a ham ending out,” one fan wrote.

“Sports God never misses an opportunity to humble the ones doing too much! 😂,” another fan added.

“Internet is forever. This will follow him for life. 😆” one fan reacted.

“TN baseball being bush…who ever would have thought it,” another commented.

“He robbed the batter, not the home run,” one fan added.

Tennessee’s First SEC Loss After Falling To Georgia 8-7

Earlier in the game, Tennessee led 5-0 until the sixth inning, when Georgia scored five runs to take control. Entering the top of the ninth inning, the Vols were trailing 8-6. The lead was cut down to one run after Blake Grimmer’s home run.

The three-game series started with the Vols’ 7-4 win in Athens, followed by Georgia’s win to even the series on Saturday. With the win on Sunday as well, the Bulldogs improved to 17-4. Meanwhile, it was Tennessee’s first SEC series loss this season as its record dropped to 14-6.
