MLB Injury Update: Cody Bellinger Sidelined After Back “Goes Out”; Brenton Doyle Battling Wrist Sprain

New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger has hit a snag while he prepare to be ready for Opening Day. Meanwhile, Colorado Rockies star Brenton Doyle’s MRI on his wrist has came back.

Let’s check out both these updates in detail.

Cody Bellinger Sidelined After Back “Goes Out”

Yankees manager Aaron Boone shared an update on Cody Bellinger. The manager said the outfielder’s back “went out on him a little bit,” leading him to miss Saturday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Steinbrenner Field.

Bellinger won’t suit up in the Spring Training game against the Philadelphia Phillies as well on Sunday and is scheduled to return Tuesday.

“He’ll probably be, I’m guessing, a couple days,” Boone said. “He was quite a bit better today. Trainers aren’t too concerned about it. And this is something that crops up on him every now and then, usually sometime in spring or early in the year.”

Last season in April, Bellinger missed a handful of games because of the same issue. This is why the Yankees are being extra cautious with him.

The Yankees are basically running the same squad from last year and Bellinger is an important part of it.

    Brenton Doyle Battling Wrist Sprain

Rocker centerfield Brenton Doyle is carrying a sprained left wrist as revealed by the MRI results. As a result, he has missed the last three Spring Training games and may continue to miss until he’s reevaluated healthy. However, this injury is unlikely to jeopardize his Opening Day status.

Doyle hit .233/.274/.376 in 538 plate appearances last year and is looking to rebound in 2026. In 2024, he had a great season, hitting 23 homers and stealing 30 bases.

Doyle’s value also resides in his above-average baserunning and exceptional defense. The two-time Gold Glove winner was buzzed as a trade interest, but the Rockies were not keen on moving him just now.

The Rockies have him under team control till the 2029 season. The centerfielder is slated to earn $3.1 million salary this year.
