Ex-Marlins Prez Mocks Jazz Chisholm Jr. Over His Bold Market Value Comments

Set to be a free agent after the 2026 season, it appears Jazz Chisholm Jr. is expecting a big payday to pledge his services to an organization for the long term.

As reported by insider Randy Miller of NJ.com on Saturday, the Bahamian infielder is eyeing a deal in the range of 8-10 seasons, with an AAV of $35 million. Naturally, Chisholm’s bold claims have led to plenty of debate among fans and experts alike.

On Monday, former Miami Marlins president David Samson offered his strongly worded opinion on the matter via a video he uploaded to his YouTube channel.

“I like confidence, I do. What Jazz Chisholm Jr. is, is not confident. It’s not even cocky. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is simply delusional. There’s a fine line between confidence and delusion, and that line is generally self-awareness,” Samson said (0:00).

“Jazz Chisholm Jr. is on a one-year $10.2 million contract with the Yankees in his final year of arbitration eligibility. The Yankees were not going to sign Jazz to a long-term deal; you can bet your sweet bippy there was no long-term deal offered to Jazz at all. You can pretend that you are a fan of that style of play, and that’s fine,” he added.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. Remains Confident In The Yankees’ Chances Of Success In 2026, Despite Relatively Low-Key Offseason

In late January, New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. was asked for his opinion on the organization’s offseason. The two-time All-Star said he was confident of the team’s chances of success in 2026, despite a relatively low-key offseason.

“I think it was fine. For me, we’ve made it to the playoffs back-to-back years,” Jazz Chisholm Jr. said.

“Haven’t delivered the final blow, but at the same time, this team is really good. Really confident in this team & we trust each other a lot,” he added.

The most successful team in MLB history by quite some distance, the New York Yankees last won the World Series in 2009. Fans are now craving another taste of glory and will be hoping that the Bronx Bombers return to the promised land in 2026.
