Luke Weaver, in an interview on the ‘Foul Territory’ podcast, opened up on his brief stint with the New York Yankees before the Mets’ move. He joined the cross-town rivals 2-year, $22 million contract after getting no qualifying offer from the Bronx.
He is joined by former teammates Juan Soto, Clay Holmes, and Devin Williams. Talking about his time in pinstripes, Weaver noted that he deeply loved everyone in the rotation and is grateful for their support throughout his three seasons with the Yankees.
“[The Yankees] didn’t have an official offer or anything of that deal… And would have loved to have been able to continue things to roll. But we know there’s always a chapter that ends and somewhere else you got to pick up. And I got all love for those guys.”
“I’ve got a lot of great texts and support from them, and wishing me the best. And obviously, they’re not going to root for me when the time comes near, and we’re in a Subway Series. But at the end of the day, just a really, really cool time there, and everybody there was just so impactful in my life.”
Luke Weaver confirmed that there isn’t any “bad blood” on his end and is happy to restart a new chapter in his life. In 2025, he recorded an ERA of 3.62 and a WHIP of 1.02 with the Yankees.
Yankees’ Search For Players Continues After Luke Weaver’s Exit
Yankee faithful have been quite upset following Luke Weaver’s exit from the Bronx to the Mets. However, the team is far from being done in the offseason. Their initial top target in the free agency has been Cody Bellinger, but after continued stalled talks, the team is considering other options.
Bellinger is also seen as a fit for the Mets, with the Dodgers in the mix. However, if he agrees to sign with the cross-town rivals, he’ll be reunited with a bunch of his former teammates, including Luke Weaver and Juan Soto.
Some of the names highly in the mix are Bo Bichette, Kyle Tucker, Luis Robert Jr., and Cubs’ Nico Hoerner. If the team fails to find the right fits, they might delve deeper into trade, but as of now, the free market has yet to pick up steam.
