The LSU Tigers are expected to keep the hot stove burning with the return of Steven Milam confirmed. The sensational infielder has decided to take his name back from the MLB draft in favor of a senior year extension in Baton Rouge. Milam’s mother confirmed the news on social media.
Milam, who has been the best defender in college baseball in the last two years, was projected to be drafted in the seventh round, which would have earned him up at least $300K for the season.
Tigers fans are excited about Milam’s decision, with many fueling themselves with national championship hopes.
“Welcome back,” one fan wrote. “Real ones are excited to have you back at the Box!!! Who’s over rated now?!”
“MONSTER MILAM IS BACK FOR 2027,” another fan wrote.
“start saving up for rocco’s jello shots,” one fan added.
“Wow… LSU ain’t playing around. Maybe this time they’ll make a Regional,” one fan predicted.
“Love this! There is nothing better than senior year,” one fan commented.
“Wow. Jay Johnson with a MASSIVE offseason win in the retention of star SS Steven Milam. Is Derek Curiel next?” another asked.
“2027 NATTY INCOMING,” one fan added.
Steven Milam’s LSU Return Decision Was Surprising
Steven Milam’s decision comes as a surprise, as Tigers head coach Jay Johnson was convinced that the shortstop was not coming back. Last year, he said multiple times that there is no way he sees Milam playing for them as he was a draft-eligible junior.
In the last two seasons at Baton Rouge, Milam has committed fewer than 10 errors in 125+ games played with a .979 fielding percentage. During the same period, he has hit 30 home runs.
Milam played a key role in LSU’s 2025 national championship, being one of the team’s most dependable bats during postseason play. However, the LSU had an underwhelming season in 2026, where they didn’t have much from the infield.
However, this year, it’s going to change as Milam will now join LSU’s roster, which also added infielders Dawson Park from Texas State and Cade Kurland from Florida through the transfer portal.
