The New York Yankees desperately needed someone to step up in the absence of Aaron Judge, and it seems infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. has taken the mantle upon himself.
After he hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the win against the Washington Nationals the other day, Chisholm appeared on “Talkin’ Yanks” and said it was high time someone from the team stepped up, and given his passion, he led the way.
I mean, we was going through a little drought, and I just feel like we needed it as a team,” Chisholm told host Jake Storiale. “I feel like a lot of guys in the clubhouse trust me, and they know I play with a lot of passion. All I want to really do is win. I know I’m a guy that really talks about myself a lot, but at the end of the day, I want to win more than that. So, you know, it just felt like it was time for me to say something, help the boys, and rally the troops, and it worked.”
Chisholm also acknowledged that despite the Yankees boasting great sluggers, it’s hard for anybody to replace Judge’s production.
“You know, I mean, because we got the best in the world on our team, and with him missing, it’s hard for anybody to step up when he’s normally in that role, you know what I mean?” Chisholm said. “So sometimes you just got to step in the big man’s shoes—like literally. I can literally wear slides in his shoes.”
Chisholm’s homer came in the ninth inning as it erased the deficit, and the Yankees went on to win the game 5-3. The club really embraced that performance as it went on to sweep the Nationals in the three-game series before entering the All-Star break.
Meanwhile, Yankees captain Aaron Judge has not played since May 31 as he continues to recover from his rib injury. The projected timeline of his return is late August, assuming no setback takes place.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. Motivated For World Series Run After Knicks Triumph
The New York Knicks delivered the Big Apple its first NBA championship in 53 years. It is expected to fuel other New York-based major sports teams to deliver. Among them is the Yankees as well, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. is all for it.
After Chisholm witnessed the Knicks’ championship parade, his hunger to win the 2026 World Series has taken priority.
“Me and a couple of my teammates talked about it, and a couple of [Knicks] talked about it as well. I talked to Jalen about it, and just seeing how it felt. Hearing it out of his voice and him getting the goosebumps all over again talking about it. It’s just a feeling you want to experience,” Chisholm said. “I talk to my boys about it, and we’re all in.”
Chisholm will be a free agent at the end of the 2026 season. Despite that, he is giving every reason to the club to retain him on a long-term deal next offseason.
