Jazz Chisholm Jr. once again made headlines after a failed ABS challenge against the Blue Jays on Saturday. In the top of the fourth inning, with a 3-0 count and the game tied at 1-1, Jazz quickly challenged a strike call where the pitch appeared to be well within the strike zone.
Manager Aaron Boone was surprised by the challenge and watched helplessly from the visiting dugout even as the commentators questioned the Bahamian’s hasty decision to request a review. Jazz was taking off his gear, expecting a 4-0 count that would result in a walk, when the challenge upheld the strike call, making the count 3-1.
Fans were quick to share their reactions to Jazz’s lax call for review against the Blue Jays.
“Is Jazz Chisholm the most selfish player in MLB? He has now called for 15 ABS challenges, losing 11 (73%),” one fan commented.
“No situational awareness, obviously poor command of the strike zone,” another fan commented.
“He should be banned from making challenges. Cant have him doing this during the playoffs,” yet another fan commented.
Other fans continued to lash out at the Bahamian with their opinions of the player, the attacks escalating due to his inconsistent performances this season.
“Definitely the lowest IQ player and most undeserved MLB player. Dude wouldn’t have made the varsity cut on my high school team in the 90s,” one fan commented.
“Easily the most overrated player in the game. Thinks very highly of himself and his .240 career average,” another fan commented.
“High bar to be most selfish. But he’s definitely the most annoying to watch,” yet another fan commented.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. Continues to Struggle Offensively This Season
The Bahamian star infielder has been struggling at the plate this season. The Yankees need Jazz to step up at the plate and string together consistent at-bats in the absence of captain Aaron Judge. So far this season, Jazz has recorded 55 hits in 240 at-bats, including nine home runs, ten doubles, and two triples.
Jazz has a subpar .229 batting average and a .710 OPS, with 29 RBIs so far this season. Something has to give for the Bahamian as pressure mounts on his shoulder, with the coaching staff and fans expecting a lot from the infielder in the absence of some big hitters in the batting lineup.
