It’s no secret that Dominican Republic baseball star Jose Ramirez is not only a veteran figure in the Cleveland Guardians clubhouse, but also in Major League Baseball. A 7-time All-Star and 6-time Silver Slugger Award winner, Ramirez is someone who has a resume that makes him worthy of being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Recently, Guarians skipper Stephen Vogt spoke highly of Ramirez and had only great things to say about the player. During an episode of Underdog Baseball with Jared Carrabis, Vogt was asked if he had soaked in the feeling of managing someone like Ramirez, who is a first-ballot Hall of Famer and will potentially have a statue.
Vogt answered the question by saying (07:59 onwards):
“I don’t think it’s sunk in yet. You know, getting to watch Jose Ramirez play 162 games, I would buy a ticket to that. And I get paid to do it. Like, it’s the coolest part of this job is that we get to watch Jose play every day. He’s who I hope my sons play baseball like as they get older. I mean, he plays baseball the right way. He doesn’t have any weaknesses. Like, he is a five-tool player, the best base runner in baseball.”
Praising Jose Ramirez further, Stephen Vogt mentioned that the 33-year-old is a great teammate to have. Vogt mentioned that the energy level got turned up by a huge volume during the team’s first day of full squad workout because Ramirez was present. Vogt mentioned that it’s a ‘joy’ to watch Ramirez play, and concluded by saying it’s a privilege for him to manage Ramirez, which he doesn’t take lightly.
A young Guardians star recently spoke highly about Jose Ramirez
The value of having someone like Jose Ramirez in the clubhouse is something that can’t be defined by simply using words. Players like Ramirez are not only efficient on the field, but they are also crucial in motivating and helping the younger players on the team, who go on to become the future of the franchise.
It appears that Ramirez is doing an excellent job of setting an example for the younger players on the team. At least that’s what one would feel after hearing what 23-year-old Guardians star Travis Bazzana has to say about Ramirez. In an exclusive chat with The News-Herald, Bazzana said:
“You seriously can’t overstate what it does for the guys around him,” Bazzana said. “It’s like this perfect combination of playing the game fun and playing the game hard. A lot of guys play the game hard are generally intense and lacking the fun part. And then guys that have fun tend to be less intense.”
Bazzana, in this media interaction, labeled Jose Ramirez as the “ultimate combination.” The younster said he thinks being the ultimate combination is why Ramirez could do what he has been doing for such a long period. Bazzana concluded by saying that having someone like Ramirez is beneficial for everyone.
