Recent reports on star shortstop Francisco Lindor are not encouraging for New York Mets fans. According to SNY’s Chelsea Janes, the organization is open to trading most players, except for young stars Carson Benge, AJ Ewing, Christian Scott, Nolan McLean, and star Dominican outfielder Juan Soto.
Former Mets general manager Jim Duquette said the team is open to discussions about Lindor. However, securing a trade may be challenging given the length of his contract and the high salary involved.
Fans shared their reactions on social media.
“And who would replace a 5 bWAR player when completely healthy. Stearns already created a major void a 1B with Alonso and now he would create an even bigger void replacing a HOF caliber SS. Makes no sense for the Mets,” wrote a fan.
Lindor is having a disappointing season with a .210 batting average, five home runs, 12 RBIs, and a .654 OPS in 41 games. The mounting errors since his return from IL have only frustrated the fanbase further.
What Did Francisco Lindor Have to Say About First-Half Struggles?
In an interview with The Athletic, Francisco Lindor addressed his underwhelming performance. He noted that although the front office has assembled a credible roster, the clubhouse has not met expectations. Lindor expressed hope for a turnaround in the second half of the campaign.
“I’m very confident. I honestly thought they put a good team together. It’s just, we didn’t play. I didn’t perform. That’s what it comes down to. It was not a good first half. There is no other way to describe it… I gotta get back to playing at a high level… The team that was put together hasn’t played together. Hopefully soon we will be able to be at a level that the front office expects us to be and the level that I expect to be,” Lindor said.
The Mets started the second half of the season on a high note, beating the Phillies 4-1 in the series opener in Philadelphia. Brett Baty and Francisco Alvarez came up big on offense, combining for three home runs as the visitors took a much-needed lead in the three-game series.
