The omission of Louisville baseball player Tague Davis from the final USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award finalist list has sparked debate online. Fans have expressed their frustration, showcasing support toward the first baseman.
Davis concluded his historic 2026 sophomore season with the Louisville Cardinals by hitting a total of 34 home runs and registering 98 RBIs. With his home runs, he led the NCAA, setting a new Louisville and ACC single-season record. His final game of the 2026 collegiate season was on Tuesday, May 19, in the opening round of the ACC Baseball tournament.
In this showdown, his team lost 16-8 to the Pittsburgh Panthers, resulting in the Cardinals’ immediate elimination from the tournament. Following the conclusion of his on-field season, he was named a finalist for the prestigious Dick Howser Trophy and was also the semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award. Shortly after this, the final list of the Golden Spikes Award was released, which did not feature his name.
The three players selected as the finalists for the award are Georgia’s Daniel Jackson, UCLA’s Roch Cholowsky, and Arizona State’s Landon Hairston.
The release of this list did not sit right with the baseball fans, as they stood up for Tague Davis’ name not being on the finalists list. Reacting to the announcement, one of the fans wrote on X:
“What an abolsute joke. #JusticeforTague.”
Another follower furious with the decision wrote:
“No Tague Davis is crazy.”
Stating that the absence of Davis’ name in the list ‘delegitimizes’ the award, one of the users penned:
“No lackey or Davis delegitimizes the award. Numbers don’t lie.”
Along the similar lines, another fan wrote:
“I don’t think there is any question, Jackson did all that he did and he did it in the SEC. Would have loved to see a Lackey or Tague Davis over Roch.”
Davis’ performance in the 2026 season earned him the title of the 2026 ACC Player of the Year and multiple First-Team All-American honors. He has also been invited to train with the USA Baseball Collegiate National team for the second consecutive summer.
When Tague Davis opened up about his 2026 pre-season mindset
Before starting his 2026 collegiate baseball pre-season for the Cardinals, Tague Davis addressed the media, where he discussed his mindset and preparations for the games of the season. Along with this, he was asked if he felt any pressure going into the season, and responding to this, he called himself the ‘most fun playing baseball’ guy on the field.
Revealing that he was not focusing on the pressure, he said:
“Not much pressure. I like to think of myself as the guy on the field who has the most fun playing baseball. I just think it’s a great time being out there and when you put too much pressure on yourself, you uh kind of lose track of the things you can control and what you can’t control,” said Tague Davis.
“But you know, sophomore year, I mean, this is this should be the most stress-free year I could play baseball. You know, it’s just a lot of fun being out there with my brothers and it’s just a just a good time. Hopefully hitting a few over the wall and maybe I get some innings on the bump. I don’t know. But, I mean, it’s just a lot of fun being there first and just all with my brothers. It’s awesome.”
