The Texas A&M Aggies have reportedly hired Oakland Athletics pitching coordinator and Director of Pitching Barry Enright as the D1 program’s next pitching coach, according to a reliable update from college baseball analyst Ryan Brauninger.
Enright is a former big-league pitcher whose career spanned about 3 years, with playing time split between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Angels. He served as the assistant pitching coach and minor league pitching coordinator for the Diamondbacks from 2021 to 2023, then joined the Angels’ coaching staff in November 2023.
After two seasons with the Halos, Enright joined the A’s pitching staff in January 2026. Now, just five months into his new role with Oakland, the former RHP is set to join the Aggies’ coaching staff.
Fans were quick to share their reactions to the latest developments in the Texas A&M coaching staff. They were divided over whether Enright was making a credible move by leaving a major league team to join a D1 baseball program.
“How was it not obvious to Trevor Alberts that Earley was a terrible hire!!! He is too young to be given a premier coaching job!!! He would’ve been better off starting at a big 12 school and working his way up to the SEC!” one fan commented.
“Risky career move for him… Early’s unquestionably on a short leash; another bad season like his first could put him out of a job, and his staff as well… Next year w/out Sorrell, Grahovic, Hacopian doesn’t bode well for a team who already failed to make a Super,” another fan commented.
“He’s been around enough but don’t love that he hasn’t been on a successful pitching staff as a coach or player ever. BUT I do love the Ron Washington connection. Wash is a real baseball guy,” yet another fan commented.
Some other fans shared veiled optimism about the new hire, with expectations for the program rising heading into the next season.
“Sounds like a good hire? Don’t know a lick of info on this guy but anything is better than what we had,” one fan commented.
“He worked under Brent Strom for 2 years in Arizona. That’s a pretty good education for those 2 years after what Strom did for the Astros,” another fan commented.
“Hoping that this the hire the team needs after a disappointing showing. Still have faith in our skipper. Overall we took a step forward from ’25. Keep it rolling. Gig’Em Aggies!” yet another fan commented.
New Texas A&M Coaching Recruit Received Wide Praise From Former Halos Manager Ron Washington
Senior Aggies sportswriter for KBTXSports, Travis L. Brown, spoke with Giants infield coach Ron Washington about Enright, who is the new pitching coach for Texas A&M. Washington, who spent time with Enright on the Halos coaching staff, spoke glowingly about the former MLB pitcher and wished him good luck on his upcoming journey with the Aggies.
“Texas A&M have just gotten them a bright future in a pitching coach, and I think the organization of the A&M baseball program will end up being one of the best pitching programs in baseball… He’s definitely analytically included, but he also has a little bit of feel for the game. He has a feel for people,” Washington said.
“He wants to help and now that he’s in the college level, parents are turning their kids over to him to help them develop on the baseball side and he’s going to end up helping them develop mentally and help them become a productive adult, not only in baseball, but in life. That’s the way Barry is,” he added.
Despite a credible 41-15 overall record, the Aggies failed to get past the College Station Regionals after losing back-to-back games against USC.
