Bo Bichette signed with the New York Mets on a three-year, $126 million deal as the franchise made a flurry of moves to bolster their roster after missing the postseason last year.
Bichette would join Carlos Mendoza’s team in February for Spring Training. The two share a connection from a decade ago. Actually, shortstop Bo’s older brother Dante Bichette Jr. used to learn under Mendoza in the New York Yankees’ minor league system. Mendoza remembers the shortstop from that time and after recently meeting him at the introductory press conference, he sang praises of the former Toronto Blue Jays star.
“Meeting him in person in New York for his press conference, the same kid, man,” Mendoza said. “A competitor. A gamer. It was just awesome to finally get him on board.”
Apart from Bichette, Mendoza’s Mets have added centerfielder Luis Robert Jr. from the Chicago White Sox. They have also addressed their weak rotation by acquiring Freddy Peralta and Tobias Myers from the Milwaukee Brewers.
Carlos Mendoza Already Planning On How To Use Bo Bichette In New Mets Lineup
There have been several additions and departures for the Mets this offseason.
They lost first baseman Pete Alonso to free agency. He signed with the Baltimore Orioles on a five-year deal. The club also traded Jeff McNeil and for Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers, and in exchange, they acquired second baseman Marcus Semien in exchange.
Carlos Mendoza stated that he has already working on potential lineups for the 2026 season, which will feature Bichette, Robert, Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, Semien and Jorge Polanco.
“We have a lot of flexibility, with the switch-hitting from Polanco and Lindor,” Mendoza said. “Then you’ve got a lefty in Soto that can hit righties and lefties. And you’ve got Bo … this guy is elite. There’s a lot of combinations here that I could go. I need to talk to players. I need to get a feel for where they are at. We’ll make some adjustments, but definitely exciting.”
Moreover, Bichette will likely have to play third base because of the presence of shortstop Francisco Lindor and second baseman Marcus Semien. It will be a new position for him to lean but he has shown readiness for the same.
