Things are going from bad to worse for the Yankees’ struggling SS Anthony Volpe. On Sunday, during the series finale against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, Volpe committed an error in the field, overthrowing the ball to first base, allowing the Phillies hitter to scamper to second base.

Although the Bronx Bombers had already secured the series win by taking games 1 and 2, they lost the series finale 11-4, missing the chance to sweep the series. Volpe’s infield error gave yet another opportunity for the already irate Yankees fans to fire shots at him for continuing with lackluster plays this season.

The condition Bowden proposed stated that the trade could only be put on the table for discussion if the Bombers managed to put together a package of Volpe and Lombard Jr.

However, it’s still a hypothetical trade route: the Nationals have never shown any intent to trade for their star SS, who is having an exceptional campaign on both ends of the field.
