The Milwaukee Brewers have strengthened their grip on the National League Central as they enter the final week before the trade deadline as one of baseball’s hottest teams. In the whole NL, they only trail the Dodgers with an impressive 65-39 record.
Despite that, for some reason, the Brewers are arguably not considered a contender or respected enough to be treated as one. We saw a small example of it during the All-Star selections when the second-best team in baseball was only given two selections.
After the Brewers’ latest 8-5 win against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday, MLB analyst Sam Block raised his voice in support of Milwaukee.
“Brewers have 65 wins. Brewers are 1st in the NL Central. Brewers never get any respect. When will the haters wake up? This team is legit,” the analyst wrote on X.
The analyst is demanding respect for the Brewers on social media, as the team continues to prove many wrong this season.
Brewers Parting With Lance McCullers Jr. After Just 11 Days
Just 11 days after the Brewers acquired Lance McCullers Jr. from the Houston Astros in a trade, the franchise has decided to designate the right-hander for assignment.
Since the trade, McCullers Jr. has made two relief appearances. In his final outing against the Rockies, he gave up three runs in 1.2 innings. However, the runs were unearned due to defensive miscues. Overall, he posted a 3.86 ERA with Milwaukee.
McCullers had only arrived in Milwaukee on July 15, when the Brewers acquired him and left-hander Colton Gordon from the Astros. The Brewers were out for a postseason experience, given their firm October status this year. However, it appears the trade didn’t turn out well as they had hoped.
McCullers Jr.’s career has taken a turn for the worse after several health issues. He missed the entire 2019, 2023, and 2024 seasons because of injuries and returned to the mound this year after a long hiatus. Across 10 appearances this season, he compiled a 2-3 record with a 6.55 ERA.
In a corresponding move, Milwaukee added right-hander Garrett Stallings from Triple-A Nashville. Stallings posted a 3-3 record with a 4.11 ERA in 18 appearances for the Sounds. Moreover, he had already logged scoreless innings during an earlier stint with the Brewers this season.
