While the signal-caller has barely played since leaving Ann Arbor last year, due to a preseason meniscus injury which ended his rookie year before it even started, 2025 is set to be a key year for him, as he was named the starter after Sam Darnold was traded to the Seattle Seahawks.

In his latest Instagram post, McCarthy can be seen walking his two dogs, a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Labrador retriever.

J.J. McCarthy was the 10th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, being selected in the first round by the Vikings. When he had to undergo surgery for his meniscus preseason injury, he became the first-ever first-round quarterback to lose his entire rookie year.

Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper has every confidence in J.J. McCarthy

Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper has every confidence that J.J. McCarthy will be able to lead the franchise to success in the coming years. Recently, Culpepper had the chance to talk with McCarthy, and he came away with a very good impression of him. He shared that impression with the “Viking Age” podcast.

“The information I’ve gotten on him, and I had an opportunity to meet him a few times and he’s very sharp. And I like that about him. He asked me, ‘What do you think about my situation?’ I said it’s kind of similar to what I went through,” Culpepper said on The Viking Age podcast.

“I told him, just do your thing. I have all the confidence in the world in him, based on how he presented himself to me and the film that I’ve seen on him. I think he’s a phenomenal player, and I know he’s chomping at the bit to get out there and show a lot of the naysayers that they’re wrong,” he added.

Culpepper played with the Vikings between 1999 and 2005. In that tenure, he was selected for three Pro Bowls (2000, 2003, 2004), was the NFL passing yards leader one season (2004), and the NFL passing touchdowns leader for another (2000).
