The Tennessee Volunteers will be busy this weekend with several transfer portal players lined up to visit the school this weekend. The program lost to NC State 76-61 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this past season.
According to On3 recruiting reporter Talia Goodman, the Lady Vols are set to host Florida’s Laila Reynolds, Virginia Tech’s Mackenzie Nelson, Georgia’s Zhen Craft, and Georgia’s Rylie Theuerkauf at Rocky Top this weekend.
Reynolds is one of the key members of Florida’s “Big 3” and she joins fellow teammate Liv McGill on her way out through the transfer portal. Both were McDonald’s All-Americans. The 2023 class recruit averaged 12.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists this past season for the Gators.
After receiving commitments from both Avery Mills and Naomi White in the transfer portal, the Lady Vols are looking forward to Nelson’s visit. The Virginia Tech transfer finished her redshirt sophomore season, averaging 8.0 per game, 5.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.
Apart from losing leading scorer Dani Carnegie, Georgia is also losing Craft to the transfer portal. Craft played from the bench for the Bulldogs and averaged 5.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-2 forward finished second on the team with 17 blocks.
Georgia’s Theuerkauf has also entered her name in the transfer portal. She averaged 11.9 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists this past season, shooting 42.4% from the field.
Tennessee Women’s Basketball Transfer Portal Activity
The Lady Vols have so far witnessed eight key players of theirs enter the transfer portal after their season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
This includes Jaida Civil, Talaysia Cooper, Mia Pauldo, Mya Pauldo and Lauren Hurst. Moreover, Kaiya Wynn stepped away from the program in March. Five-star recruit Oliviyah Edwards was released from her commitment.
So many departures have forced the Lady Vols to add as many players as possible through the transfer portal. The reason attributed to these losses has been the lack of chemistry under head coach Kim Caldwell.
Tennessee has also managed some victories this transfer portal, adding Liberty guard Avery Mills and Northern Arizona player Naomi White.
