Satou Sabally’s impressive one-year stint with the Phoenix Mercury could be over, according to WNBA insider Annie Costabile.
Costabile tweeted on Tuesday as the WNBA free agency market is about to heat up:
“Satou Sabally is not expected to re-sign with the Mercury, multiple sources tell me. Meetings with multiple teams are anticipated over the coming days when negotiations open up tomorrow.”
Last year, the German international earned an All-Star selection, the third in her career. She averaged 16.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game after arriving in Phoenix from Dallas via a four-team trade.
As good as Satou Sabally was, she was even better in the playoffs, where she averaged 19.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 2.5 apg and 1.1 spg. She played a big role in the Mercury’s 2025 WNBA Finals appearance. Against the eventual champion Las Vegas Aces, the versatile lefty put up 21.7 ppg before a concussion suffered in Game 3 forced her to sit out Game 4.
With perennial MVP contender Alyssa Thomas and franchise foundation Kahleah Copper likely re-signing, Sabally likely would have to take a discount to remain in Phoenix. She could get a maximum contract if she signs elsewhere.
Satou Sabally will likely have no shortage of suitors. The Golden State Valkyries, who surprised many in their first year in the WNBA, could be interested. The Seattle Storm, if they can’t re-sign Nneka Ogwumike or Skylar Diggins, could also try to sign her.
