On Thursday, Azzi Fudd had her first conference as a member of the Dallas Wings. It was a warm welcome to the team and the city, but one reporter caused some awkwardness with a question about Fudd’s relationship with Paige Bueckers.
Before Fudd could answer the question about whether she and Bueckers were still a couple, a member of the Wings’ PR team stepped in and said that they were “respectfully declining” the question on Fudd’s behalf. This move has caught some flak on social media, with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy standing up for the reporter’s right to ask the question.
“This is a totally fair question. Sure it’s unusual but they are very public on social media. They are teammates. They don’t keep their relationship private,” Portnoy tweeted.
Portnoy added that, ultimately, answering the question might not have bothered Azzi Fudd at all.
“I have no problem with them not answering it but I have no problem asking it. It’s fair game. I also don’t think they care.”
Last summer, following months of speculation, Paige Bueckers confirmed in a TikTok that she was dating Azzi Fudd. At that point, Bueckers was in the midst of her rookie season with the Wings after winning the 2025 national title alongside Fudd and getting drafted first overall in the WNBA draft.
Though there were multiple prospects to go no. 1 in the 2026 class, it was Fudd who went off the board before anyone else in this past Monday’s draft. Whether or not Fudd and Bueckers are still together, Wings fans can look forward to their tried-and-tested chemistry on the court.

The viral clip of Azzi Fudd’s press conference has drawn several reactions from personalities within the sports world. Another netizen who gave her two cents was The Athletic’s Jemele Hill, who wasn’t too pleased with the Wings’ PR team inserting themselves in that situation.
“They should have let her answer the question,” Hill tweeted.
Nevertheless, Fudd will join Bueckers on the hardcourt when the Wings’ season tips off next month.
