In an opinion piece published on Wednesday, USA Today columnist Nancy Armour blasted Caitlin Clark for flopping excessively. Armour wrote that there appears to be “a white nationalist faction” within Clark’s fanbase that has directed racist attacks at players like Alyssa Thomas, who got involved in an infamous altercation with CC back in a June 24 Fever-Mercury game.
Responding to Armour’s opinion piece, Fox News’ Riley Gaines had a piece of advice for the Indiana Fever star.
“I hope Caitlin Clark sues the pants off of USA Today and Nancy Armour.”
Gaines’ Tweet on Thursday comes on the heels of another CC take that she expressed on national TV.
In an appearance on Fox News last week, Gaines speculated that other WNBA players “hate” the three-time All-Star because they harbor feelings of “jealousy.” Gaines also wondered out loud if WNBA players resent Clark because she’s White and straight.
The conversation surrounding Clark and discrimination in the WNBA picked up steam after a group of House Republicans sent a letter to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert earlier this month. In this letter, the members of Congress asked Engelbert to address “repeated attacks of physical violence” against Clark. They also advanced the idea that these attacks could be “racially motivated.”
In the meantime, players like Thomas and Chelsea Gray have recently shared that they have been on the receiving end of racial slurs. Thomas also claimed that she received death threats in the wake of her altercation with Clark.
Caitlin Clark Skips WNBA Orange Carpet for All-Star Weekend: Report Explains Why
On a more lighthearted note, Caitlin Clark had a special reason for skipping the WNBA Orange Carpet this year.
Instead of rubbing shoulders with the rest of the WNBA’s elite in Chicago, Clark apparently went back to her hometown of Des Moines, Iowa to get her hair done.
This Sunday, Clark will lead an All-Star team selected by Teresa Weatherspoon against a squad handpicked by Cynthia Cooper.
