The Dallas Wings will wrap up their first homestand of the 2026 campaign when they host the Washington Mystics on Monday night. The Wings are looking to get back into the win column at home after suffering back-to-back losses. They will then hit the road for a three-game stretch that includes matchups against Chicago, Atlanta and New York. This week could be a tough one.
The Wings opened the season with a 107-104 road win over the Indiana Fever but dropped their next two games at home, losing 77-72 to the Atlanta Dream and 90-86 to the Minnesota Lynx.
When the big guns, Paige Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale and Odyssey Sims, show up, the Wings usually win, which was the case in the victory over the Fever. However, in the following two games, they failed to come through consistently. Bueckers has been the steady force so far, leading the team in scoring with 20.7 points per game, while Ogunbowale is averaging 16.0 points and Sims is putting up 12.7 points per game.
Alanna Smith, a marquee free-agent signing, has struggled to make an impact this season, averaging just 4.7 points per game. A significant drop from the more than 9.6 points she averaged last season.
As for the Washington Mystics, their prospect pool isn’t considered as deep as most teams’, but their recent draft selections have looked quite promising. Last year’s draftees, Sonia Citron, Kiki Iriafen and Georgia Amoore along with this year’s fourth overall pick, Lauren Betts, have each stood out for the right reasons.
Citron is averaging 24.3 points through the games so far, including a team-high 30 points in the 104-102 win over the Indiana Fever on Saturday. Iriafen is leading the team in rebounding with 13.7 rebounds per game, while Amoore is leading the team with 4.7 assists per game. They’ve also received solid contributions from Shakira Austin and Cotie McMahon, both of whom are also scoring in double figures.
These youngsters still have some distance to travel on their path to becoming established WNBA players, but it’s incredibly encouraging to see each of them making as much progress as they have in such a short amount of time.
