Former player-turned-analyst Lisa Leslie has faced backlash after her recent take on A’ja Wilson being the face of the WNBA. Caitlin Clark has been the most popular player in the league since she was drafted, bringing many new eyes to the W. However, long before she entered the pro league, Wilson was at the top of all standings and records. But fans did not agree with the analyst’s take.
Leslie, a two-time WNBA champion, was impressed by Wilson’s performance in the last game against the Chicago Sky and her scoring consistency to the extent that she labeled her “the face of the WNBA.” She said:
“A’ja has been completely outstanding. She deserves all of the glory that she gets, commercials, all of the things. This is the face of the WNBA.”
However, fans criticized Leslie’s statement and took to the comments section in defense of the superstar guard. A user wrote:
“She’s the best player in the league, not the face of the league.
Big difference.”
Another user took a dig at the officiating woes that have caught everyone’s attention since the first game this season, especially with Clark in constant altercations with referees. The Clark fan wrote:
“No referee will call her constant travels and endless fouls
The whole W is rigged to give her numbers
The W is corrupt”
One more user suggested a quick way to determine the real answer:
“The face? How about we ask a random sample of 1 million across the world who A’ja is vs CC.”
One more user wrote:
“A’ja Wilson is the BEST player in the WNBA, but Caitlin Clark is clearly the face of the WNBA.
The numbers don’t lie.”
This user directly compared the numbers between the two stars:
“Caitlin Clark drew a million viewers on USA vs expansion Toronto.
A’ja Wilson couldn’t draw a million viewers on CBS vs Minnesota, the best team in the WNBA.”
Wilson has had back-to-back 30-point games to take the Las Vegas Aces to consecutive wins. However, the last win over the Chicago Sky, 107-99, was special for the three -time WNBA champion. She stacked the stat sheet with 32 points and 15 rebounds, along with four steals and three blocks.
The top overall pick of the 2018 WNBA Draft has etched her name on several records in the league, and her versatile offensive game has only increased the level of competitiveness. On the other hand, Clark has brought a new phase, with increasing viewership, leading to a new CBA deal with players.
A’ja Wilson Wins Sportswoman Of The Year
A’ja Wilson has added another feat to her list of achievements, as she became the 2026 Sportswoman of the Year at the BET Awards. With this, she has surely made her mark on the Face of the WNBA debate.
The Aces will next face the New York Liberty, the only team the Aces lost to in the last five games. It will be another test of determination between the two teams, as Liberty have hit a difficult phase in the last few games.
