Department of Education Uses Viral Sophie Cunningham Meme in Response to Sec McMahon Impeachment Calls

The popular Sophie Cunningham meme has also reached the U.S. political space after a day of viral trends catching up to the hype. Recently, there have been widespread conversations about U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon moving to abolish the Department of Education and transfer its powers to other federal agencies.

After Democrats protested against Secretary McMahon, the U.S. Representative for Oregon’s 1st Congressional District, Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, filed impeachment motions against the Secretary for her decision. That led another Congressman, Mike Quigley, to come in support of Rep. Bonamici.

Resharing the post, the Department’s official account wrote along with a clip of the popular meme:

“When people argue that Secretary McMahon should be impeached simply for working to improve student outcomes by breaking up the failed status quo:”

Meanwhile, the majority of the House would have to approve the impeachment motion to pass it unanimously, and then a two-thirds majority would be needed in the Senate, where Republicans have a majority.

On the other hand, Cunningham’s on-court altercation with DeWanna Bonner of the Phoenix Mercury has been the hot topic this week. The moment where she pointed her finger at Bonner has gone viral, with fans coming up with multiple iterations of the clip.

The Sophie Cunningham moment sparks a frenzy of memes

Sophie Cunningham’s viral pointing moment that came during the Indiana Fever’s win over the Mercury, 86-77. Bonner got into a wrestling match of sorts with Caitlin Clark in the paint. However, as usual, Cunningham came to the rescue of the team’s superstar. The viral moment has become a trending meme on the internet.

A user shared some of the most popular iterations of the meme on social media, with the caption:

“Sophie Cunningham has officially become the internet’s favorite person this week, and all it took was one extended finger.”

Though the game gave a viral moment, Fever lost a close rematch on June 24, 111-109. Clark could play just 20 minutes, scoring 19 points and eight assists, due to her recurring back injury. Though Kelsey Mitchell had a 30-point game, Kahleah Copper’s 28 points overpowered hers. The Fever will next face the LA Sparks with uncertainties around the superstar guard’s availability.
