Angel Reese remains one of the most closely scrutinized athletes on social media, and that attention often leads to memes and even fabricated quotes circulating online. One such quote that recently resurfaced claims she made a remark about her salary.
A post on X on Friday, which has accumulated 1.3 million views as of writing, featured a graphic displaying Reese’s supposed response to critics:
“Y’all make $1,400 a week, I make $1,400 in 7 days.”
However, the quote is not real. Reese never made that statement, and the same fabricated quote had already circulated online last year.
Although the quote is false and portrays Reese as if she misunderstands basic math, its figures are somewhat close to reality. Reese is currently on a four-year, $324,383 rookie contract.
The average weekly salary from that contract comes out to roughly $1,560 per week, which is not far from the number referenced in the fake quote.
During her rookie season in 2024, Reese went viral after revealing on Instagram Live that her WNBA salary alone was not enough to cover her living expenses.
Reese explained that her monthly rent is $8,000, amounting to $96,000 per year, which is significantly higher than her rookie salary of $73,439.
“I just hope y’all know, the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all. I don’t even think it pays one of my bills. Literally,” she said.
Since the WNBA season does not run year-round, Reese supplements her earnings through lucrative endorsement deals. During her final season at LSU, her NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) valuation reached $1.8 million.
Angel Reese Joins Ownership Group of NBL Team
Earlier this week, on Tuesday, Angel Reese expanded her growing list of business ventures by joining the ownership group of the Brisbane Bullets alongside Jason Levien and Ben Haan.
The announcement came after Reese’s recent trip to Australia with Reebok, where she helped unveil new colorways of her signature Angel Reese 1 basketball shoe and announced the brand’s official footwear partnership with the WNBL for the 2027 season.
This move marks the latest sports investment for the two-time WNBA All-Star, who previously joined the ownership group of United Soccer League club DC Power FC in 2024, as well as the ownership group of the sports media brand TOGETHXR.
In 2023, Reese also launched the Angel C. Reese Foundation, a philanthropic organization focused on empowering girls and women through sports, education, financial literacy and other initiatives.
