The Las Vegas Aces and Connecticut Sun are set to battle for the second time in as many days. On Wednesday, the Aces defeated the Sun 98-69 thanks to a well-balanced scoring attack led by Chennedy Carter.
Now, the Aces and Sun will lock horns once again. Las Vegas has won two straight games after enduring a brutal season-opening loss to the Phoenix Mercury. Meanwhile, the Sun knew this season would come with challenges, but the toughest part has been the lack of improvement from last year. They are 0-3 so far and have faced some tough opponents. Still, there are areas they would like to clean up as they try to make a stronger push before the franchise relocates next season. The Sun will surely want to make up for some of their shortcomings on Friday.
Carter, a new member of the Aces, has had a great start to the season. In her debut for Las Vegas, she scored 10 points in their 99-66 loss to the Mercury. In the following two games, she led the team in scoring with 22 points against the Sparks and 27 against the Sun.
The 2020 No. 4 overall pick was acquired by the Aces in the offseason via free agency, and she is averaging 19.7 points so far. The Aces coaching staff and front office must be pleased with the early success Carter has had.
The Sun have shown flashes of potential but have struggled to turn that into victories. Aneesah Morrow has been very impressive so far, as she leads the team in points and rebounds. The former LSU star recorded another double-double in Wednesday’s loss with 16 points and 11 rebounds. She also shot a career-high from the free-throw line, going 7-of-10. Olivia Nelson-Ododa had 14 points along with six rebounds and three assists.
