Texas Longhorns’ NIL Spending Surges to $40M, Doubling Ohio State Ahead of Week 1 Showdown

Texas has one of the most talented rosters in college football, and Arch Manning is set to take over as starting quarterback next season. Texas is being touted as one of the favorites to win the national championship next season, and the composition of their squad didn’t come cheap at all.

They face off against defending champions, Ohio State, in Week 1. Ohio State is another team that has assembled a very expensive squad, but the disparity between the value of the Longhorns’ team and the Buckeyes is very alarming.

Texas vs. Ohio State: NIL Giants Set for High-Stakes Showdown With $60M+ in Combined Talent

Texas and Ohio State are the two favorites to win the national championship next season, and the two programs have the fattest NIL budgets, with the Longhorns almost doubling that of the defending champions. Adam Breneman, a college football analyst, spoke on the topic in a recent segment.

“Ohio State dropped $20 million on NIL last year,” Breneman said, “but there’s one program nearly doubling that amount of money. We’re entering a new era in college football where NIL budgets are starting to look like NFL salary caps, So who’s the program leading the charge? It’s Texas. Texas is reportedly spending 35 to $40 million on their 2025 roster.”

“Arch Manning alone is valued at $6 million, and in week one, they face Ohio State – the two biggest NIL spenders battle head to head, and we might see a rematch in January come the college playoffs.”

He later added a valid question.

“My biggest question now is does the fattest wallet mean you’re going to win titles as well?”

The Longhorns landed the No. 1 recruiting class for 2025, reeling in five five-star players in a class that rivals any in modern memory, and they also have enough budget to retain and keep veterans happy. As any seasoned follower of college sports would testify, budget doesn’t always guarantee success.

Texas has the stars, the budget, and the glitz. They must now find a way to harness and transform these millions of dollars into titles, or else it will all be for nothing.
