American tennis star Taylor Fritz is falling through the cracks in 2026, with the latest loss coming in the 2026 Miami Open as he went down against Jiri Lehecka before the quarterfinals round.
Fritz went down in three sets as Lehecka won the match, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. Previously, at the Indian Wells Masters, Fritz was defeated in the Round of 32. Apart from making the finals of the Dallas Open, where he was defeated by Ben Shelton, there’s not a lot to show for him this season.
After another early loss, fans are starting to question the American’s competitiveness. While many acknowledged that he is dealing with injuries many predict that Fritz won’t win a Masters tournament again.
“I know he’s managing injuries but Fritz still not being able to take full advantage of a masters 1000 draw that opened up is why I hold the phone in conversations about him being the next U.S. man to win a major,” one fan wrote.
“Fritz is never winning a 1000 again,” another added.
“Once again I called Taylor Fritz losing because I know sports are rigged and tennis is extremely fixed. Where’s all the morons who said Fritz was going to win? I’m waiting? Cashhhhh me out Lehecka,” one fan commented.
“Fritz has really tanked,” one fan wrote.
“Upset on paper yeah but I did pick Lehecka for the win. I think Fritz hit his peak. Just too many vulnerabilities in his game. Serve is his biggest weapon but he’s always been missing that dog in him to be a major factor at the big tournaments,” one fan added.
Major Injury Taylor Fritz Dealing With
Taylor Fritz’s loss could be related to injury. The American professional has been dealing with knee tendinitis for over a year. The worst thing about this is that it fluctuates day-to-day and week-to-week. However, Fritz has progressed from mild discomfort to affecting movement.
“I’m still managing my knee. Some days it’s better than others, and I don’t know why exactly,” Fritz said via Tennis.com. “In Dallas, for example, it felt amazing and it didn’t bother me at all the whole tournament. I felt like I was moving great. And then, in the lead-in to Indian Wells, it wasn’t. It felt like I almost regressed a little bit. Same thing happened in Australia, as well.”
Fritz also picked up an oblique injury during the Australian Open stretch, adding to the overall strain on his body. Despite the injuries, Fritz has continued playing competitively. This has drawn criticism, with some saying he’s risking long-term damage.
