Serena Williams Makes Rare Public Comment as Allyson Felix Targets 2028 Olympics at Age 40

Serena Williams recently exuded excitement over Allyson Felix’s bold decision to make a comeback at the 2028 Olympics. The track and field star would be making a comeback after a hiatus of six years.

Felix initially retired from her track career in 2022 after delivering a notable performance at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She stood atop the podium in the women’s 4x400m relay and also nabbed a bronze medal in the mixed 4x400m relay event. She has solidified her legacy with her dominance in the Olympics, winning seven gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal in her career.

Felix recently shocked the sporting world with her bold decision of making a comeback at the 2028 LA Olympics at the age of 40. Taking to Instagram, she made the announcement by penning captions on the pictures that read:

“In a million years… I never thought I’d return. And somehow, here I am – reaching for LA 2028, on my own terms. I’m not here trying to relive who I was. I’m deeply proud of everything I’ve done. This is something different, a question that keeps pulling me in. What is humanly possible…at this age? The world tells women that after 40, we should slow down, be smaller, quieter. Satisfied.”

    She added:

“But this is my love story with LA- the city that raised me… calling me to return to myself in a new way. It’s scary. It’s exciting. The most vulnerable I’ve ever benefited from. And I don’t know how it ends. What if success isn’t defined by the outcome- but by the courage it takes to try? What if chasing audacious dreams at any age is the bravest thing we do?”

This garnered a rare public reaction from Serena Williams, who dropped a sweet comment, stating that she was eager for the sprinter’s comeback.

“I love this so much. Can’t wait,” wrote Williams.

Serena Williams opened up about her comeback rumors

In early 2026, rumors of Serena Williams’ comeback at 44 made rounds on the internet despite her initial denials. It was fueled by her re-entry into the anti-doping testing pool, training sessions, and more. She re-entered the International Tennis Integrity Agency testing pool in late 2025, as it is a necessary step for a retired player who is seeking to make a comeback.

This sparked major speculations, and in her conversation on the Today’s Show in January 2026, where she spoke about her Super Bowl ad for Ro, she was also asked about her intentions of coming back. Responding to this, she said:

“I mean, really? Are you asking this on the ‘TODAY’ show?’ Oh my goodness. I’m just having fun and enjoying my life right now. Listen, I have a two kid, I’m a full-time stay-at-home mom. When I filled out the form the other day, occupation, housewife.”

In December 2025, the former tennis player also penned a note on X regarding her comeback. She wrote:

“Omg y’all I’m NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy.”

Serena Williams retired in 2022 after competing at the US Open, where she advanced to the third round; however, she lost to Ajla Tomljanović.
