World No. 1 Jannik Sinner advanced to the third round at Wimbledon after defeating Nuno Borges in three competitive sets at Center Court on Wednesday. Defending his title in London won’t be easy, as shown in his first-round match against Kecmanovic, where he was pushed to his limits, evidenced by his bloodied shoe.
In his second-round match against Borges, Sinner continued to wear the same bloodstained shoe, a detail many fans on social media humorously noted, taking a cheeky jab at the World No. 1.
Sinner donned Nike GP Challenge 1.5 tennis shoes in a white-and-green color scheme at Wimbledon. A custom silver plate on the tongue signified his status as defending singles champion.
His ensemble featured Nike Unicorn socks, NikeCourt Slam Dri-FIT Tennis Shorts, NikeCourt Slam Dri-FIT ADV Tennis Polo, Nike Club Unstructured Cap, and a bespoke Nike ACG jacket.
Jannik Sinner Was Surprised Being Allowed to Play With the Bloodstained Shoe in R1
After his strenuous win over Kecmanovic in the opening round, Sinner was evidently asked to reflect on the match after taking a scary tumble and then playing with a bloodstained shoe. Smiling as he responded, the Italian said it was nothing serious, but he was amazed that he was allowed to continue playing in that situation.
“No no. I’m good. It just seems much worse than it is. I’m actually very surprised they let me keep playing because… all white, it turned into a little red 😂. It’s just a nail. I didn’t want to disturb Miomir. I think we both had a good rhythm. It was a great match from both of us. I didn’t want to take any time. It’s all good. Thank you,” Sinner said in the on-court interview.
The World No. 1 will face Jenson Brooksby in the third round on Friday.
