Felix Auger-Aliassime Leaves Carlos Alcaraz & Jannik Sinner Behind In Impressive Stat With Run To ATP Dubai Open QF

Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime has left behind both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner behind in one ATP stat following his advance into the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships.

Auger-Aliassime defeated Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-4, 6-4, to set up the quarterfinal date against Jiri Lehecka. With the win, Auger-Aliassime has extended his lead at the top among players born after 2000 for the most quarterfinal advances.

The Canadian, who was born in 2000, has reached 66 quarterfinals, four more than Sinner, who was born in 2001, and 11 more than Alcaraz, who was born in 2003. Lorenzo Mussetti, with 43, and Holger Rune, with 38, quarterfinal advances rounds up the top five players in this list.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz and Sinner are well ahead in terms of tournament wins when compared to Felix-Auger Aliassime. Alcaraz, at just 22, has already six Grand Slam titles to his name, while Sinner, at 23, has four Grand Slams in his bag. Meanwhile, Auger-Aliassime is in search of his first major title.

Felix Auger-Aliassime Acknowledges Sinner and Alcaraz as “Best Players”

Felix-Auger Aliassime has spoken highly of both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner despite them being rivals on the court. When talking about Alcaraz’s game, Auger-Aliassime is impressed with the Spaniard’s exceptional speed and shotmaking. These words came after the Canadian lost the ATP Tour Finals encounter against Alcaraz in straight sets.

“For a player who did everything well, I remember that three or four years ago, everyone said: ‘The serve, the serve! Incredible serving!’. He did it wonderfully,” the Canadian said. “The rest of his game has always been good. He can change the direction of both strokes. He pressures you in a different way, you don’t know what to expect. He plays at a dizzying speed, I think that was the most challenging part.”

Felix has acknowledged both Sinner and Alcaraz as the best players on the tour:

“The rankings don’t lie. They are the two best players, that’s a fact. They have different playing styles, but both exert extreme pressure on their opponent in different ways. It’s not even necessary to explain how they play, we all know it. We’ve seen them play over the last few years. We know what to expect. They continue to prove their worth and play well, so we have to give them credit.”

Auger-Aliassime knows it’s hard to defeat the top two-ranked players, but has belief in his abilities to make them sweat whenever they match up.
