Here we are with our top tennis picks, best bets, and reliable predictions for today’s matches at the Madrid Open. Wednesday is the first official day of the main draw, following the two-stage qualifiers on Tuesday. Today, we bring you our top picks from some of the R1 matches in the Spanish capital.
ATX Open finalist Taylor Townsend, who won back-to-back doubles titles in the Sunshine Swing, will be in action today when she takes on Katie Boulter in R1. Similarly, a host of other American players from both men’s and women’s singles will be commencing their journeys in Madrid today, including Alycia Parks, Sofia Kenin, Jenson Brooksby, and others.
Top Tennis Picks and Best Bets From the Madrid Open Today
Taylor Townsend vs. Katie Boulter: Boulter to Win (-105)
This will be the duo’s first meeting on clay and the fourth overall on tour. All their previous meetings have come on the hard surface, with Boulter leading the head-to-head battle against Townsend 3-0.
We don’t expect the tides to change in favor of the American even today, as this will be her first match on clay this season, while the Brit has already played four, with a 2-2 record.
Expect Boulter to come out of the blocks quickly and assert her control over the match, although Townsend is expected to fight back, but ultimately, the Brit would win in three sets and advance to the round of 64.
Alycia Parks vs Elisabetta Cocciaretto: Set Spread, Cocciaretto -1.5 (-102)
This will be the second professional meeting between Parks and Elisabetta Cocciaretto. Their previous meeting came in the R1 of the ASB Classic, which the Italian won in straight sets. Despite playing two decent matches in the qualifiers to advance to the main draw, we will be leaning towards Cocciaretto in this one.
While Parks is 6-3 on clay this season, as opposed to Cocciaretto, who is 3-2, we predict the Italian will move better on the surface and command the rally from the baseline today. The Italian could secure a straight-set victory, or Parks could force the decider, but ultimately, the Italian will win two sets and advance to the next round.
Jenson Brooksby vs. Emilio Nava: 3 Sets to be Played in the Match (+135)
This will be the first professional meeting between the two Americans as both Emilio Nava and Jenson Brooksby aim to start their Madrid Open campaign with a win. Both Nava and Brooksby had struggled in their previous claycourt tournament in Houston, and times looked grim for solutions to their problems on court.
Irrespective of an inconsistent run this year, we expect the duo to battle it out for a place in the R2 today. While Nava is the heavy favorite to win the match, we will not be leaning towards any player today and instead go a bit bold, predicting the match will go to the deciding set. Expect a hard-hitting contest between the duo.
Alexandra Eala vs. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova: Set Spread, Eala -1.5 (+135)
The Filipino rising star, Alexandra Eala, begins her journey at the Madrid Open against Russian veteran Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. This should be an amazing contest, as Pavlyuchenkova is coming off a thrilling qualifying win over Starodubtseva to enter the main draw of the WTA 1000 event.
The Russian is 2-1 on clay this season, but Eala had endured disappointing runs in both Linz and Stuttgart, thereby contending a 1-2 record on clay so far in 2026. Despite Eala’s underwhelming results in the last two events, we are leaning towards the 20-year-old Filipino today to secure a three-set victory against the Russian.
Ashlyn Krueger vs. Sofia Kenin: Total Games Over 21.5 (-125)
This will be another all-out battle between two American WTA pros as Ashlyn Krueger locks horns with former Australian champion and French Open finalist Sofia Kenin in R1 of the Madrid Open. While the duo is 1-1 on hard courts, their only previous meeting on clay came at the Catalonia Open in 2024, which Krueger won in three sets.
Two of the three meetings have gone to the deciding set, and we don’t expect anything different tonight. While we are leaning towards Krueger to stage an upset by beating Kenin today, the match should go the distance, as the former World No. 4 shouldn’t go down without a fight, thereby making our pick highly lucrative for the contest.
