Coco Gauff recently achieved a major milestone of advancing to the quarterfinals of all the WTA 1000 tournaments after her recent win at the Miami Open. Her mother, Candi Gauff, dropped a heartfelt reaction to her daughter’s achievement.
Gauff is currently competing at the Miami Open, where she recently competed and faced a scare in the round of 16 against Sorana Cristea. It was a tense showdown, as she lost the second set after dominating the first, and the match was also temporarily paused as a spectator required medical attention.
After losing the second set, the American bounced back in the third, claiming a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory. With the win, she progressed to the quarterfinals and also achieved a milestone of completing a set of WTA 1000 quarters.
This is the first time she has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Miami Open. The Tennis Channel shared this news on Instagram, writing:
“@cocogauff gets it done at her home event.”
The milestone captured her mother, Candi Gauff’s, attention, who commented:
“❤️❤️”

Gauff will now square off against Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinal round on March 25. She opened her Miami Open campaign after competing against Elisabetta Cocciaretto and then went on to defeat Alycia Parks in the second round.
Coco Gauff opened up about her clash against Sorana Cristea in Miami
During an on-court interview after qualifying for the quarterfinals, Coco Gauff spoke about her showdown against Sorana Cristea in the round of 16. Analyzing the game and praising her opponent, the American revealed what she learned from the match and, along with this, also made her feelings known about advancing to the quarterfinals.
“I think just to stay with it. She started to play well, and she had some good balls and goods, and yeah, I think I had a couple misses that I learned from and didn’t try to do the same thing in the third set. It feels great to first time finally be in the quarterfinals of this tournament. It’s obviously a tournament that means a lot to me. So, I’m happy to finally reach the stage,” said Coco Gauff.
Gauff was also asked about what she was most proud of with her game other than staying strong mentally. Replying to this, she said:
“I think except maybe the first set, I thought I served well and you know, made her have to play a lot of returns, and I was hitting my spots when I wanted to and I think there were variety. I did a couple serving volleys, which is something that I think I can do more, and, the match point, I just told myself to go to the net.”
She further spoke about how a tweet helped her win a lot of net points in her match, stating:
“I feel like I’m a hard person to pass, so I think in the pressure moment if they hit a great passing shot then you know you clap your hands and move on but I honestly I saw a tweet that said I should go to the net for and um I was like, “Yeah, you’re right. I win a lot of net points.” So, I honestly was thinking about that on match point and I was just hoping I didn’t miss the volley and net because I’ve done that a couple times, but I was just focused on just hitting it over the net.”
Coco Gauff opened her 2026 season at the United Cup and then competed at the Australian Open, where she fell short of progressing further than the quarterfinal after losing to Elina Svitolina.
